Wisniewski Responds to Kyrillos Education Comments

(Trenton)- Today, while PolitickerNJ was covering Joe Kyrillos’ long shot Senate campaign, Kyrillos took a potshot at Assemblyman John Wisniewski, Chairman of the New Jersey Democratic State Committee.  Kyrillos, who once served as Chairman of the New Jersey Republicans, made comments questioning Wisniewski’s commitment to public education.  Wisniewski responded:

“It’s no secret that Joe Kyrillos stands with the Romney-Christie Education Agenda.  Today he publicly reaffirmed that.  New Jersey Democrats are serious about education reform, not sound bites.  We want reform that strengthens New Jersey’s already excellent public education system.  Kyrillos, Christie, and Romney would rather gut public education by diverting resources from public schools to corporate-run charter schools and private schools.

Kyrillos, Christie, and Romney think all teachers are bad teachers.  The difference is that Democrats think that bad teachers are bad teachers and we should make it easier to get rid of those who can’t do the job.  On the issue of tenure reform, Democrats have worked to implement a process to weed out those bad teachers, without punishing the thousands of dedicated, inspiring educators teaching New Jersey children in our public schools.  Maybe the senator has already forgotten, but we did pass teacher tenure reform this week-and he voted for this Democratic initiative.”
