Wisniewski: “Governor, It’s Time to Get to Work”
(Trenton)- This morning, in an historic ruling, the United States Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act, including the individual mandate. Last month, Governor Chris Christie vetoed legislation that would have implemented a health insurance exchange in New Jersey, one of the key provisions of federal health care reform. Christie justified vetoing the legislation because of the uncertainty surrounding the Supreme Court’s consideration of the Affordable Care Act. Assemblyman John Wisniewski, Chairman of the New Jersey Democratic State Committee, issued a statement following the ruling:
“Governor, it’s time to get to work on a health exchange here in New Jersey. You said your reason for rejecting the legislation was the pending case before the Supreme Court. Well, the court has ruled the Affordable Care Act constitutional. No more excuses. You need to work with the legislature to get this done and ensure New Jersey workers have a health insurance exchange that allows them to select the coverage that works best for them and their families.”
