Christie Spends More Than 1.5 Days Per Week Auditioning for VP Out of State

(Trenton) This afternoon, Governor Christie will head into New York City for yet another campaign stop designed to further his national political ambitions and boost the candidacy of Mitt Romney.  Last week, the Star Ledger reported that Governor Christie had left the state 54 times in the past eight months and an ABC News political blog noted that Christie is averaging 1.5 days per week outside of the state.  Then, Christie hit the road again this weekend, heading to Richmond for a fundraiser for Tea Party darling Congressman Eric Cantor before headlining an event for Kentucky Republicans.  This morning, Assemblyman John Wisniewski, Chairman of the New Jersey Democratic Party, held a press call with John Walsh, Chairman of the Massachusetts Democratic Party, to discuss Governor Christie’s support for Mitt Romney.

Governor Christie’s frequent campaign stops on behalf of national Republicans are making it clear that he is focused on doing what is best for his political party and his own national reputation, rather than what is best for the Garden State,” said Assemblyman Wisniewski.  “This is just another way he seems to be emulating Mitt Romney, who famously spent much of his only term in office campaigning outside of Massachusetts.  New Jersey voters didn’t elect a part-time Governor and we’ve had enough of Governor Christie using his title to launch his own national ambitions.”

“The Governor likes to play himself off as a financial jobs wizard as he campaigns for President - but that just doesn’t match his record when he was Governor of Massachusetts. He said he would grow jobs and shrink both deficits and government, but under Mitt Romney, Massachusetts ranked 47th out of 50 in job creation,” said Chairman Walsh.  “If Governor Christie is serious about raising his national profile, he’d be wise to start distancing himself from Mitt Romney instead of bending over backwards in hopes of getting consideration for the ticket.”
