Seriously, Senator Kyrillos?  You're the One Politicizing a Sandy Hearing...

(Trenton)- This afternoon, members of New Jersey’s General Assembly and State Senate held a joint committee hearing to learn more about the circumstances that led to New Jersey contracting with Florida debris-removal contractor AshBritt following Superstorm Sandy.  During that hearing, Senator Joe Kyrillos used his speaking time to launch a political attack at Senator Barbara Buono. Assemblyman John Wisniewski, Chairman of the New Jersey Democratic State Committee, released the following statement:

“Senator Buono is one of many New Jerseyans asking whether Governor Christie’s political relationships led him to offer a contract to a firm that charges rates well above those of its competitors.  The cost to clean up the mess left by Superstorm Sandy will be billions of dollars.  Our elected officials have an obligation to ensure that the recovery effort is conducted in an efficient and financially responsible manner.

Senator Kyrillos is clearly projecting, since he, and not Senator Buono, was the person politicizing today’s hearing. It is particularly galling that Kyrillos is tossing these accusations around, given that he and Governor Christie both know quite a bit about using their current offices to campaign for their next job.

Kyrillos represents some of communities hardest hit by Sandy, and his behavior at the hearing marks a serious dereliction of duty to the people who elected him.  It is outrageous that he and his fellow Republicans are choosing to ignore the glaring issues regarding the AshBritt contract in order to benefit Governor Christie's re-election campaign."
