Wisniewski Statement on Women’s History Month
(Trenton)- March is Women’s History Month. Assemblyman John Wisniewski, Chairman of the New Jersey Democratic State Committee, released the following statement:
“March marks the celebration of Women’s History Month. 100 years ago, New Jersey’s Alice Paul was leading women from across the country to fight for their right to vote. Her fight, for women to be treated equally under the law, is unfortunately a fight women still must wage today.
Governor Chris Christie’s tenure has been harmful for women in the state of New Jersey. He has vetoed millions of dollars in women’s health funding. Women in New Jersey still make just 79 cents for every dollar men make, yet Christie rejected legislation to ensure that women get equal pay for equal work. He does not believe women have the right to choose. Lesbian couples have no right to marry in New Jersey because Christie vetoed marriage equality. The women of New Jersey deserve better.
So, as we celebrate Women’s History Month and honor the women who contributed to our state and our country, we should also remember that we have the opportunity to make women’s history this year: by electing Senator Barbara Buono as the first Democratic woman to serve as New Jersey’s Governor.”
