Delgado-Polanco Continues As Vice-Chair of Leadership Team
(Trenton) — Earlier this evening, New Jersey Democratic State Committee members unanimously re-elected John Currie as chairman along with his slate of top party leaders: Vice Chair Lizette Delgado-Polanco, Secretary Janice Kovach and Treasurer Kelly Stewart Maer.
Under Currie’s leadership, New Jersey Democrats have maintained party unity, kept the organization on sound financial footing, built for the future, and successfully won election contests up and down the ballot. The party has also worked to highlight Governor Christie’s scandalous behavior and failed policies.
“I am delighted to have received the trust and support of New Jersey’s Democratic State Committee members, and I look forward to the next two years. I see the state party chairmanship not as a position of privilege, but as an opportunity to represent and empower local officials – to highlight the important roles they play in our communities. We have great candidates and elected officials who reflect the right values and priorities,” said Chairman Currie.
Currie also noted the importance of restoring New Jersey’s reputation as a dark blue state, and thanked committee members for their efforts to hold Chris Christie accountable for his policy failures and hypocrisy. “Often, the governor’s behavior is so appalling that he makes it easy. Other times, it is really frustrating to pin down such a slippery, moving target — one with no true convictions, who recklessly wastes taxpayer dollars and abuses his powers,” said Chairman Currie. “But now that New Jersey sees who Chris Christie really is, he’s gone from record high approval ratings to historic lows, where he remains under a lingering cloud of scandal.”
Vice Chair Lizette Delgado-Polanco welcomed the opportunity to serve another term. “I am proud to serve on such a dedicated and diverse team of Democrats. New Jersey’s hard working middle class families are being oppressed by Republican policies, and it is shameful how some of our most vulnerable have been neglected,” Delgado-Polanco said. “Democrats have a compelling argument that the only way to move New Jersey forward is to elect Democrats across the state, and that is an argument we look forward to making.”
In particular, the party organization’s accomplishments over the last two years include the re-election of the state’s first African-American U.S. Senator, Cory Booker; the election of the first African-American female to Congress in New Jersey’s history, Bonnie Watson Coleman; the enlargement of the state Assembly majority to its largest level in 37 years; and upset election victories in local races, such as those in Bergen, Burlington, and Monmouth counties.
